This rare boxed set, produced by the John Wanamaker Company, offers a fascinating glimpse into early 20th-century American interest in Asian decorative arts. The set includes a finely printed 7" x 4 7/8" string-tied pamphlet (9 pages) on Aurelian paper in grey paper wrappers, promoting “The Oriental House, Fourth Gallery, New Building.”
Accompanying the pamphlet are two sets of black-and-white illustrated plates: one containing 32 images, the other 18, each showing Chinese and Tibetan furniture, jade, and objets d’art, with descriptive captions. Pamphlet is very crisp and clean, plates show some mild wear and soil. Original box is intact, but shows heavy wear. Undated; Penn State's Philadelphia Area Archives dates this item from the 1920s.
